Hummingbirds

I purchased another hummingbird feeder because I noticed I had a female and a male hummingbird hanging around our backyard.

TM sent me this picture she took of the female!

Unforunately, the female has been scaring the male off... I hoped she would share one of the feeders with him. She said "No way!"

January Update!

Here's a little update of what's growing! My ranunculus are doing just fine, despite a few inches of snow last week. 

I'm so excited! AND...

Ignore the mushroom...

It's either a tulip or muscari... We'll see what happens there. Inside the house I have something actually blooming: 

I had brought back some magnolia branches from my Christmas holiday at home. It took a few weeks but as the snow starting falling outside, my magnolia started blooming. :)

Seedbomb Update!

I just-this-second discovered this here on Anthropologie.

You can buy a small bag of seedbombs. what's even better, just like the urban beautification project, you can select seedbombs per what region you are in so that you are not planting something possibly harmful for your area and you will have more chance of success.

I think they'd make fun gifts for those not talented in the gardening department as the "bombs" are supposed to feed the seeds in case they are thrown into poor soil.

At Anthropologie you can also get pet-friendly and herb seedbombs.

This Just In: Seedbombs

I just discovered Seedbombs! There is a company that re-purposes old gumball machines and loads them with balls made of clay and compost and contain regionally appropriate seeds. Urban beautification in the hand of any one person that passes by. What a neat idea!

SNOW.

What did I do this morning? I woke up at 8:30, immediately got up to look out the window (knowing full well that there was a possibility of snow) and was pleasantly surprised to see snow. What did I do then? Go outside of course!

As I post this the snow is still lightly dusting, but the clouds have come and it is much darker. It is very peaceful though sitting near the window and listening to Sunday Baroque and seeing flakes drift to the ground.

Back in the Garden

Hello again! Not much going on in the way of my yard this winter. Just feeding the birds....

and planting some RANUNCULUS!

Brought these back from home in a store-bought scone container. It was perfect.

 I brought these little darlins' home from my mom on January 2nd and planted them here:

Finally in the planter.

It may be a tad crowded, but I didn't want to plant them in the ground if I might be moving. Don't want to forget them! I chose mostly champagne colored, some orange, and two or three from a pastel mix. I'm hoping they do really well. Thanks mom!
