Spring might finally be on its way...

After two days of snow that followed days and days of rains, I got out to examine my plants and move some away from the house to catch some rays.

Muscari.

Seascape strawberries.

Daffodils.

Top Hat blueberry.

I moved my blueberry out and mulched it with pine needles for the acid. I'm excited for my hydrangea:

And for my mother:

Christmas cactus.
Chrysanthemum "growths".

Snow.

All day. Snow. What is happening?! My ranunculus will never bloom at this rate. I can only wonder what the rest of the year is going to look like... Yikes!

Hoping the weather holds up for my mother and her beautiful flowers on the coast!

Loving these tulips!

Spring is Slowly Approaching

Even though the weather is icky, to say the least, I am excited about the progress I am having.

My blueberry and strawberries are still looking good!

Sad that the blooms will need to be removed.

My hydrangea is leafing out!

Out of curiosity I kept the chrysanthemum I bought last last fall to see just what would happen. Almost all around the edge of the container there are little chrysanthemum growths!

I hope that any day now I will see a bud grow out and develop from my muscari, grape hyacinths, and daffodils.

I also can't wait to see all of my ranunculus bloom!

Almost a St. Patrick's Day Cactus

Over the Christmas holiday, my grandma passed along a start from her white Christmas cactus. I was excited to attempt growing it. Here is how it came to me at the end of December:

In early February I thought it time to pot up and chose this terra cotta pot that I had laying around.

You can see each "branch" has a node at the end.

Here it is today, one bud is definitely much further than the other.

Almost.... just almost a St. Patrick's Day cactus.

Garden Goodies get in the "Ground"

So, you have probably guessed what I bought at Garland Nursery the other week.

Seascape strawberries, Top Hat blueberry bush, and a primrose.

I really went to Garland in search of the Top Hat blueberry and the Fern variety of strawbs. Unfortunately their grower did not send Fern, but Albin instead, after talking with an employee I settled with Seascape - 25 of them actually. It was cheaper that way! :)

It was a gorgeous day to plant! I decided to use some of my compost from the worm bin when potting the strawberries and blueberry (they like their acid, you know). I to dig deep to get the the good stuff.

Wish you could smell it! :)

Here's a close up.

I planted 12 strawberries in a stacking pot and the blueberry is going to (hopefully) live happily in his own container.

One strawberry per pocket. I might plant alyssum in the top.

I am not looking forward to having to take all of the flowers off of my blueberry, but... I must do what is best for the plant! Especially if I want berries!

It wasn't long before I had a friend:

Now I have 12 more strawberry plants to decide what to do with... I don't want to buy another stacking pot, but I may.

And, lastly, my primrose. I repotted my Wilma tree in this round container with my two primroses. On the left side you may see something branching out. It is my calibrachoa, million bells, from last summer. It might have some life left in it so I couldn't toss it quite yet.

Just as the primroses are differing shade of yellow, their fragrances are different as well. I adore them!

Garden Goodies!

Well, I happened to receive a coupon for Garland Nursery (thanks mom!). So what did lil' ole me do? Go to the nursery, of course! It was so much fun as it was actually nice out on Monday after some days of rain/snow. The sun was out and the birds about.... Anyway, I made sure to go through all of the kwansit huts and down all of the rows. The camellias were so pretty and I just wish you could all smell the daphne. Heavenly!

Once the rain/snow thing stops pouring from the sky (as it started again)I will take photos of my finds. :) What did I get? How about some riddles:

                             I.
They may bear once or summer long
In the ground or pots- you can't go wrong
This fruit has not just one seed,
But many it wears many upon its sleeve

                             II.
I can't contain my joy for thee,
This new compact variety
Will bring me berries so blue
You simply cannot eat just two

                              III.
Some are named for those that do go "moo"
They blossom when spring begins anew
The English used the flowers in their wine
For these "roses" I do pine

Ok, so they are probably fairly easy to figure out but I did just make those up.  :)
